Nov. 5th, 2015 07:57 pmThe ship had been traveling for a very long time. It was not quite a capital ship, but she came close; several decks, hundreds of tons of cargo space, ample living quarters, and dozens of rec rooms were only a few of the amenities that the ship enjoyed. The bridge had been retrofitted for a single captain. Many stasis pods were lit and active in neat, staggered rows along the wall and ceiling, though only one contained a full sentient. The pods glowed a cheerful blue in the otherwise dim, cavernous room.
Bots traveled the hallways and engine conduits, scrubbing the rooms, polishing the tables and keeping everything well in order for when their master would return. The bots were old enough, now, to have developed pre-sentience. Stellar cartography had never mapped so far beyond the rim of known space, and many scientists had tried to dissuade their Administrator from embarking on what they firmly believed was little more than a suicide mission. Poe had other plans. The circumstances in her life led her to a singular view of the nature of the universe: everything was real, and everything was out there, somewhere. Instead of alternate realities existing in parallel dimensions, Poe believed everything was a singular dimension spread out across the infinite vastness of space, each galaxy housing a separate reality from the next.
She'd outlived everyone she'd known. It was time to test her hypothesis. For the first time in many years, Poe felt the forgotten thrill of exploration.
Before she'd left, Poe had copied herself and downloaded herself to a secondary body. Technically, the one she currently inhabited was the original, but there was little difference to the cybren. They could be a sentimental people, but switching from one body to the next was a natural, if complex process. Similarly, Poe had no qualms about having another, identical Poe left behind to continue in her, or was it their, life. Such fears were very human, and Poe was less human than her peers.
Then, some internal sensor beeped, an external power source pinging against the VI brain of the vessel and flagging the source of the power as another ship.
Slowly, gently, the stasis chambers began their glacial process to bring their precious cargo out of deep hibernation.
[OOC: This, but with boobs. She's currently without her synthskin. Hope you don't mind all the pictures; I think that with sci-fi especially, there's enough variety that pics help give a feel for the tech.]
